THE MESSAGE
WHEN YOU ARE TROUBLED

We all have times when we are troubled and uncertain; whether it is due to study, or work, or with our friends or family, or even just within ourselves. So I just wanted to remind myself and all of you of what our Prophet Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam said: "Wondrous are the believer's affairs. For him there is good in all his affairs, and this is so only for the believer. When something pleasing happens to him, he is grateful, and that is good for him; and when something displeasing happens to him, he is patient, and that is good for him" (Muslim).

"Whatever befalls one of sorrow, grief, exhaustion, fatigue or harm, Allah will forgive him his sins for that. This is true even for a thorn that penetrates his foot."

So alhamdulillah, every moment of our lives, happy or difficult, is rewarded by Allah when we remember Him; how reassuring is that? Every moment we are in pain we are rewarded by the One who created us and to whom we will return.

In the age of the sound bite, the Qur'an and the hadith provide du'aa and dhikr which are the perfect slogans to remind ourselves of Allah and of our Islam day in day out. My advice to myself and to you is memorise one that touches your heart and say it often so that it influences your thoughts and your actions. I'll make just one suggestion, because there are so many beautiful reminders – please continue to look for examples and share them with me, so that I can use them too!

When Mounting Means of Transportation
Ali bin Rabee`ata said: I witnessed Ali bin Abi Tãib when he was given a beast of burden to mount, just when he put his foot in the mount he said: In the name of Allah [Bismillahi], then when he had ascended upon its back, he said: All praise be to Allah [Al-hamdu lil-lãh], then he said: Subhãnal-lathee sakh-khara lanã hãthã wa mã kunnã lahu muqrineena. Wa'innã 'lã rabbinã lamunqaliboona. Then he said Al-hamdu lil-lãhi 3 times, then he said: 'Allãhu 'akbaru, 3 times, then he said: Subhãnaka 'allãhumma 'inne thalamtu nafsee, faghfirlee, fa'innahu lã yaghfiruth-thunooba 'illã 'anta… Glory be to Him who has availed this to our use, for we were not bound to it. And to our Lord surely we will be returning.

Then he laughed, so he was asked: O' Commander of the faithful! Why did you laugh? He said: I saw the Prophet do as I have done, then he laughed, so I asked him: O' Messenger of Allah! Why do you laugh? He said "Your Lord Glorified and Exalted is He, admires when one of His bondservants says: Lord forgive me my sins, he knows that no one else forgives sins besides Me [Allah]".

Johannesburg police are looking for five Zimbabwean men who have skipped bail. They belong to a gang wanted for armed robbery.

RECIPE
Doughnuts
Ingredients
4 cups flour - 4oz butter - 4 level tsp baking powder - 1/4 up castor sugar - 250ml fresh cream - 1 egg - ¼ tsp salt in the egg - A sprinkle of nutmeg in the flour.

Method
Mix all ingredients to forma soft dough. Add as little milk to make the dough soft if needed. Roll out and cut with doughnut cutter. Fry in hot oil. When cool roll in castor sugar & cinnamon. ¼ Cup castor sugar. ¼ tsp cinnamon.

COOKING TIP
Cheese Garnish - Use a potato peeler to create cheese peels for garnishing salads, soups and more.

A THOUGHT
All vegetables and fruits have distinct tastes and odours and carry individual colours is the result of the design particular to them. They are all favours Allah bestows upon us. Similarly, animals, too, are created specially for human beings. Apart from serving as food, man finds their physical appearances appealing. Fish, corals, star-fishes decorating the depths of oceans with all their beautiful colours, all kinds of birds adding charm to their habitat or cats, dogs, dolphins and penguins? They are all favours from Allah.
