UNDERSTANDING THE QUR’AN
SURAH ABAS CONTINUED…
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE BENEFICIENT THE MOST MERCIFUL

[20] Later, he made him die, and put him into the grave

COMMENTARY: (Later, he made him die, and put him into the grave). The inception of human life, Allah points to its end, that is, death and grave. Death has been mentioned here in the context of blessings of Allah. It indicates that death is a blessing rather than a calamity. The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: "The gift of a believer is death." Moreover, there is a profound wisdom in death at macro level for the entire world.

The phrase 'fa-aqbarah (and put him into the grave) describes another blessing of Allah, in that when man is dead, he is not left lying on the earth like other animals where he might rot, blow up and burst [and probably be ravaged by vultures or beasts]. But, even after death, he is honoured in the most befitting manner. His body is washed ceremonially, enshrouded in clean cloths, and buried in a grave with respect. This verse also indicates that it is obligatory to bury a dead human body.

It is absolutely clear that the significance of the day of Aashooraa is from the time of the noble Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam). The following are some misconceptions with regard to Aashooraa:

* This is the day in which Adam (Alayhis Salaam) was created.
* This is the day in which Ibrahim (Alayhis salaam) was born.
* This is the day on which Qiyaamah will take place.
* Whoever takes bath on the day of Aashooraa will never get ill.

To regard the tenth of Muharrarm as the day of 'Eid. To indulge in adornment, applying Surmah (collyrium), wearing new clothes, spending lavishly and cooking a particular type of meal which is not generally prepared. All these actions are not regarded as Sunnah. No authentic narration sanctioning and permitting such actions can be found. The words of the Hadith only mention ‘spending freely on ones immediate family.’

Another misconception is that the month of Muharram is an unlucky month; hence marriage ceremonies should be avoided in this month. This concept is again, contrary to the teachings of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam).

Let us observe this great day according to the way of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) and the Sahaba (Radhiyallahu Anhum) and refrain from all innovations, which deprive us of the blessings from Allah Ta’aala. May Allah guide us all upon the Straight Path and save us from every act which brings His Displeasure. Ameen

It is reported of Sayyadatina Aisha RA that she said: A small goat was presented to the Messenger of Allah, he said: "Divide it out," then whenever the servant would return Sayyadatina Aisha RA would say: What did they say? She would say: They said: May Allah bestow blessings in you (Bãraka 'allãhu feekum) then Sayyadatina Aisha RA would say: And in them may Allah bestow blessings (wa feehim bãraka 'allãhu) we return upon them the same as what they said, and our reward remains for us.

AND… FOR THE KIDDIES
There was a blind girl who hated herself just because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her close friend who was always there for her. She said that if she could only see the world, she would do anything for her friend.

So, one day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. Now she could see everything, including her friend. Her friend asked her, "now that you can see the world, will you be my best friend now?" The girl was shocked when she saw that her friend too was blind.

Her friend walked away in tears, and later wrote a letter to her saying. "Just take care of my eyes dear."

This is how our human brain changes with our status change. Only a few of us remember what life was before, and who was always there for us. Even in the most painful of situations.

RECIPE
PAN FRIED MEAT
Ingredients
500g Lamb Deboned and cut into 1cm cubes - 1 tsp Chilli powder - 1 tsp crushed chillies - salt to taste - 2 tblsp butter - Red chilli to garnish.

Method
Heat butter in a non stick Pan. Add meat and spices and braise well. Lower heat and cook until meat is tender. Garnish. Serve with corn on the cob.

COOKING TIP
Lightly roast garlic flakes, rub between the folds of a piece of cloth. The skins will come off easily.

Don't spend major time with minor people. If there are people in your life that continually disappoint you, break promises, stomp on your dreams, too judgmental, have different values and don't give their backing during difficult times... then such are not your friends.
