MAYYITS (FUNERALS)

THE MESSAGE
The Virtues of Allah’s sacred month of Muharram
What are the virtues of the month of Muharram
----------------------------------------------------

Allah’s sacred month of Muharram is a blessed and important month. It is the first month of the Hijri calendar and is one of the four sacred months concerning which Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Verily, the number of months with Allah is twelve months (in a year), so it was ordained by Allah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them, four are sacred. That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein…” [al-Tawbah 9:36]

Muharram is so called because it is a sacred (Muharram) month and to confirm its sanctity. Allah’s words (interpretation of the meaning): “so wrong not yourselves therein…” mean do not wrong yourselves in these sacred months, because sin in these months is worse than in other months. It was reported that Ibn ‘Abbas RA said that this phrase (so wrong not yourselves therein…) referred to all the months, then these four were singled out and made sacred, so that sin in these months is more serious and good deeds bring a greater reward.

Qataadah RA said concerning this phrase (so wrong not yourselves therein…) that wrongdoing during the sacred months is more serious and more sinful that wrongdoing at any other time. Wrongdoing at any time is a serious matter, but Allah gives more weight to whichever of His commands He will. Allah has chosen certain ones of His creation. He has chosen from among the angels Messengers and from among humankind Messengers. He chose from among speech the remembrance of Him (Dhikr). He chose from among the earth the Masjids, from among the months Ramadhaan and the sacred months, from among the days Friday and from among the nights Laylat al-Qadr, so venerate that which Allah has told us to venerate.

People of understanding and wisdom venerate the things that Allah has told us to venerate. (Summarized from the Tafseer of Ibn Katheer, may Allah have mercy on him. Tafseer of Surat al-Tawbah, aayah 36).

DUA (PRAYER)
AT THE TIME OF DEATH

Turn the face of the dying person during the pangs of death towards the Qibla

ALLAHUMMA IGHFIR LEE WAR HAMNEE WA ALHIQNEE BIR RAFEEQIL AALAAA

“O Allah! Forgive me, have mercy on me and join me with the highest friends (the Ambiyaa AS and the pious)”

AND… FOR THE KIDDIES
ALLAH IS ALWAYS WITH US

One busy Saturday morning, Abdullah went shopping with his parents. The store they went was full of people carrying baskets and pushing trolleys. It was also very, very noisy. “Stay close to us Abdullah,” his mother said. “I don’t want you to get lost.”

Abdullah tried to stay close to his parents as he didn’t want to get lost. Then he saw something that made him forget everything else. There, in the toy section was a wonderful set of toy cars. There were cars in different colours and shapes. Abdullah loved cars. He loved racing them and playing with them. There was a bright red car on the self that he liked, it looked just liked the one his friend had.

He turned around to show his mother the cars but… she wasn’t there. Neither was his father. They can’t be gone far, he thought to himself. So, he walked a little more thinking he would find them but he couldn’t see his parents anywhere. Where could they be?

The more he walked, the more lost he became. He was so little and the people around him were so tall. He kept getting pushed around as people walked with their baskets and pushed their large trolleys. How would he ever be able to find his parents amongst so many people?

By now Abdullah had become very frightened. I am all alone, he thought to himself. How will I get home? He wondered. Big tears were falling from his eyes. He sat down in a corner and cried. He cried because he was scared of being alone. He cried because he wanted his mother. He wished that he remembered to stay close to her.

A lady saw him crying and stopped. “Are you lost?” she asked him. Abdullah couldn’t answer her as he was crying so much. Then, he heard something wonderful. It was his mother’s voice. “Abdullah”, she said, “we’ve been looking all over for you.” Abdullah hugged his mother. “I was so scared,” he cried. “I was all alone.”

“Oh Abdullah, don’t you know that you are never alone?” his mother asked. “How can any of us ever be alone when Allah is with us every minute of every day? Whenever we feel scared or even a little sad, we should always remember to make Dua to Allah Ta’la. Allah’s help is always there. Mummies and Daddies can’t be there all the time but Allah Ta’la will always be there.”

Abdullah began to feel better. If Allah Ta’la is always with him then Allah will always be there to help him, guide him and protect him. Each of us should remember that lesson too. None of us is ever alone. At every moment of every day, Allah Ta’la is with us and Allah Ta’la will always be with us.

POEM
Return from Hajj

For Allah, my heart went there
Where I turn my face in Prayer
It's a duty, this I know
So to Makkah I did go
For Allah I packed my gear
Then to His House I came near
For my journey I was ready
Allah made me strong and steady
I walked around the Kaaba wall
And teardrops from my eyes did fall
Yearning was I for this day
In Allah’s House to pray!
Truly my heart, Allah brought
I thank Him for His support!
With His Mercy I arrived
Then home I went, purified!

PERSONALITY
The Life of Aisha RA is a wonderful Illustration that a Muslim woman can be a scholar and a teacher. Aisha RA exerted a Powerful influence in the early Islamic community and provided many others with inspiration and leadership. Her talks are still read in literature courses, her legal pronouncements are studied in law schools, and her life and works have been examined by students of Muslim history for nearly 1,400 years.

In her early childhood Aisha RA was brought up by her father, Abu Bakr RA, a man of wide knowledge and the closet friend of the Prophet SAW in her youth, Aisha RA was known for her striking beauty and her extraordinary memory.

Aisha RA married the prophet SAW in 624 C.E, during the second year after the migration to Madinah, when she was about 14 or 15 years old. This was considered a normal age for marriage at that time. Before and after her wedding, Aisha RA maintained a natural gaiety and innocence. She was not overawed by her marriage to the Messenger of Allah, Whom all his companions, including her own mother and father, treated with a level of love and reverence they gave to no one else. As his wife and close companions, she acquired from the Prophet SAW great depths of knowledge and insight.

Aisha RA lived for almost 50 years after the passing away of the Prophet SAW. She had been his wife for nearly a decade. Much of his time was spent in learning and acquiring knowledge of the Qur’an and the Hadith. Aisha RA became a Hafith, one who memorized the entire Qur’an. She was one of four persons who transmitted more than two thousand Hadith. Many of these pertain to some of the most intimate aspects of the Prophet’s SAW life, which only someone in Aisha’s RA position could have witnessed.

Aisha RA was knowledgeable in law, mathematics, medicine, and poetry. Scholars regard her as one of the earliest legal experts of Islam along with the caliphs Umar and Ali. The Prophet SAW Referring to her extensive knowledge of Islam is reported to have said: “Learn a portion of your religion from this lady.”

Aisha RA also took an active part in education and social reform. She trained many boys and girls, and her house became an Islamic academy. As a teacher she had a clear persuasive manner of speech. One of the early Muslim said, “I have heard speeches of Abu Bakr RA and Umar, Uthman and Ali up to this day, but I have not heard speech more persuasive and more beautiful from the mouth of any person than from the mouth of Aisha RA.”

Aisha RA was the most respected woman of her time. Men and women came from far and wide benefit from her great knowledge. She died in the year 680 C.E. and was buried beside other companions of the Prophet SAW.

A THOUGHT
Allah sends us trials and burdens in accordance with our capacities, but every single person must carry some burden through this life. We will be asked to carry burdens in accordance with our faith-power. In our times believers will be loaded to their absolute capacities, as spiritually blind people have made sure to make the lives of believers as difficult as possible.

THE SMILE

THE NEWS
Senior Republicans in the U.S. Senate are expressing doubts that the administration's new war policy in Iraq will work. Sen. Richard Lugar, the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and at least eight other Republican senators say they now back legislative proposals condemning Bush's decision to boost US military strength in Iraq by 21,500 troops. In his State of the Union speech Tuesday night, Bush urged skeptical members of Congress to give the plan a chance to work. Many lawmakers remained reluctant.

Fatah and Hamas fighters have waged a fierce gun battle in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun, wounding three people. The violence comes as the rival Palestinian factions tried again to reach agreement on forming a national unity government. Violence between Fatah and Hamas has killed more than 60 people since last spring.

Iran has received a Russian air defense missile system. Iran's announcement came as it launched three days of military maneuvers - its first since the U.N. Security Council approved sanctions against Iran on Dec. 23. The United States last year called for an international halt of arms exports to Iran, and for an end to nuclear cooperation Iran as a means of pressuring it to halt uranium enrichment. Israel has also criticized arms deals with Iran. On Monday, Iran conducted missile tests and said it had barred 38 United Nations nuclear inspectors from entering the country.

Malaysia has dismissed fears of growing Islamic radicalism in Southeast Asia, but said the region was experiencing a renewed interest in the faith. Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar said that there is an increase in a resurgence of people wanting to know more about one's cultural heritage, history and religion, but this should not be equated to radicalism," He says. Malaysia, the current chair of the 57-nation Organisation of the Islamic Conference, promotes a moderate version of Islam that emphasizes economic and scientific development.

South Africa would decide before the end of the week whether or not to send troops to Somalia as part of an African Union peacekeeping mission in that country. The issue is being discussed at the Cabinet lekgotla being held at the Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria. The AU Peace and Security Council agreed to the deployment of the nearly 8000 troops as part of the African Mission to Somalia (AMISON). Only two countries, Malawi and Uganda, have so far pledged to provide troops for the mission.
