HADITH, SAYINGS/TRADITIONS OF MUHAMMAD SAW
Abu Hurayrah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “A Miskin is not the one who goes around begging from people and who can be turned away with a morsel or two, or a date-fruit or two. A true Miskin is he who does not find enough to suffice him, does not disclose his poverty so that he might be given alms, and does not stand up to beg". [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary: This Hadith throws light on a very important problem relating to beggars who go door to door begging. They are, in fact, not poor because they accumulate a lot of wealth through small amounts which they collect every day. The real needy and poor are those who are not well-to-do, but their appearance and dress hide their poverty. Their self-respect does not permit them to make a request for help. The real purport of this Hadith is that it is the latter category of poor people, with a sense of self-respect, who should be given preference in financial help over the professional beggars because it is they who are really poor.

THE MESSAGE
ANIMALS RIGHTS in MUSLIM PERSPECTIVE
Ahmet Yasar Cakmak
-----------------------

Many organizations defend ANIMAL RIGHTS. We wish to share the Muslim perspective on this subject.

In the western world the “Animal Rights” concept was put on the agenda in the late 19th century. The Universal Declaration of Animal Rights was proclaimed in Paris on 15 October 1978 at the UNESCO headquarters. Let us examine the Muslim practices centuries before that.

The best sample to humanity, is our beloved Prophet (Peace be upon him) “…He even thought of baby animals and ordered to behave compassionately and clemently to them. To care for them well and he banned insults and cruelty to animals. A man was milking his goat. The Prophet said to him to leave some milk for the young goat… also the prophet banned the harming of birds, their nests and taking of its eggs and chicks, he did not tolerate hunting for enjoyment, amusement and entertainment.

The Prophet (pbuh) said: “If someone kills a sparrow unjustly Allah (God) the almighty will bring him/her to account for it in the Doomsday.” (NASAI)

Anas Bin Malek RA saw a group of people making a hen a target. He said “the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) banned making living animals targets.“ (Bukhari)

Abdullah (the son of Sayyadina Omar RA) narrated a saying of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) “A woman was punished in hell because of a cat that died because of hunger. Allah punished the woman saying that “Neither have you fed it nor you allowed it to drink. You even did not set it free in order to find its share in the earth.” (BUKHARI)

The events above are not just lines written in books, but Muslims have lived and made them a reality. read more

DUA/PRAYER
DESIRE AND DUA TO ATTAIN MARTYRDOM OR TO DIE IN MADINA

ALLAHUMMAR ZUQNEE SHAHAADATAN FEE SABEELIK WAJ AL MAUTEE BIBALADI RASOOLIK.

“O ALLAH! Grant me martyrdom in Your Path and grant me death in the city of Your Rasool viz… Madina”

HANDY HINT
Hang with the best. After you’ve whittled the contents of your closet, treat the remaining pieces right. Padded hangers help keep sweaters from losing their shape, while clip-style hangers designed for trousers prevent unwanted creases. Hangers made of heavy-duty plastic or wood are low-cost luxuries that make a closet look better and thereby encourage you to keep it clean.

RECIPE
Mongolian Stir Fry

¼ cup oil - 1 cup steak or chicken cut into julienne strips - 1 tsp chilli garlic paste - 2 Tbsp lemon juice - 1 tsp salt - ½ cabbage - shredded - 1 ½ cups carrots- cut into julienne strips - 2 onions- chopped - 1 cup green pepper- chopped - 4 small tomatoes- chopped - ½ cup soya sauce - ¼ cup Steers Peri-Peri sauce - ¼ cup Steers Barbecue sauce - ½ cup spring onions- chopped - ½ cup dhania- chopped.

Heat oil and stir fry the meat. Add chilli garlic paste, lemon juice and salt. Stir in the vegetables, individually, in the order given. A THOUGHT
Many diseases we have and that we think come from normal sickness actually are spiritual in nature. Diseases do not only come from normal sickness. They come back to us as manifestations of different bad manners and negative energy that we are spreading.

THE SMILE
In Order of Stupidity...

In case you needed further proof that the human race is doomed through stupidity, here are some actual label instructions on consumer goods.

On a bar of soap -- "Directions: Use like regular soap." (and that would be how?)
On some frozen dinners -- "Serving suggestion: Defrost." (but, it's "just" a suggestion).
On Bread Pudding - "Product will be hot after heating." (...and you thought?)
On packaging for an iron -- "Do not iron clothes on body." (but wouldn't this save me more time)?
On Sleep Aid -- "Warning: May cause drowsiness..." (and... I'm taking this because?)
On a Japanese food processor -- "Not to be used for the other use." (now, somebody out there, help me on this. I'm a bit curious.)

THE NEWS
British Prime Minister Tony Blair has voiced optimism about the situation in Afghanistan, claiming "huge success" in the south of the country despite the rising British death toll there. This week's death brings to 46 the number of British troops killed in Afghanistan since US-led forces toppled the Taliban regime in 2001, according to a tally by AFP. But Blair stressed that every time losses are inflicted on Taliban forces, they are then able to move in reconstruction and redevelopment".

An explosion in a popular market in Baghdad's Shiite bastion of Sadr City killed two people and wounded 10. Sadr City, the impoverished district in east Baghdad, is a regular target for Sunni fighters in the current sectarian conflict that has rocked the Iraqi capital. The explosion came a day after 70 people were killed and 138 more were wounded in a double bomb attack outside Baghdad's renowned Mustansiriyah University which is near Sadr City.

Israel's military chief has quit over the failures of the war on Hezbollah in a second blow to the unpopular government after a graft probe was launched against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. The 58-year-old Halutz became the most senior head to roll over the conflict, which attracted withering criticism in the Jewish state after failing to achieve its main goals of freeing two seized Israeli soldiers and destroying Hezbollah. He resigned just hours after Israel's chief prosecutor ordered a criminal graft probe against Olmert, the latest in a string of corruption scandals to hit the country's leadership.

Releasing the official Arrive Alive statistics for the past festive season, transport minister Jef Radebe said the number of deaths on the country's roads had decreased by 4.13% compared to the same period the previous year. The minister said statistics show that in seven of the country's provinces, there have been significant decreases in the number of fatalities in relation to the same period in 2005. But the Free State and North West Provinces recorded a slightly higher death toll.

Firoz Cachalia, the community safety MEC, says he is concerned about allegations that police abused their power by threatening and intimidating a prostitute and a photographer in Pretoria. "In a democratic society everyone is entitled to humane and lawful treatment by the police", Cachalia said. He said, assuming that the allegations were true; he would seek a report from the provincial commissioner and request the Independent Complaints Directorate to investigate the matter. This come after Sunnyside police allegedly brutally assaulted a woman. She is fighting for her life in hospital, the Pretoria News reported. A Pretoria News photographer took pictures of men, allegedly plainclothes policemen, attacking a prostitute, but fled when the men turned their attention toward him.
