SUNNAH, PRACTISES OF MUHAMMAD SAW
Wudhu

To wash each part thrice.
To make Khilaal of the beard when washing the face. (Khilaal means to pass the wet fingers through the beard).
To make Khilaal of the fingers and the toes when washing the feet.
To make Masah of the whole head once.
To make Masah of both ears with the Masah of the head.
To rub each part properly during washing.
To wash each part one after the other without pause, (so the part washed first, does not dry up before washing the next part).
To make Wudhu in proper sequence.

THE MESSAGE
Concern for the Hereafter - The Cure for Crime
By Mufti Muhammad Shafee Saheb in Ma’ariful Quran
------------------------------------------------------

Islamic beliefs are based on three basic principles, Tauheed (oneness of Allah Ta’aala), Risaalah [prophethood] of Rasulullah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam and Akhira [belief in the hereafter]. Amongst them, belief in the Akhira is the very essence of correcting and rectifying our actions. It is extremely effective in the prevention of sins and disobedience.

After applying careful thought, it becomes distinctly clear that without belief in the Akhira (hereafter) it is practically impossible to establish peace and safety in this world. Today, the world has reached the pinnacle of material progress. No stone is left unturned in employing material means to curb crime and violence in any country, yet it is a reality that crime and violence is on the increase throughout the world. The only reason for this state of affairs is a wrong diagnosis and treatment. The cause of this deterioration is love for material possessions, unnecessary engrossment in materialism and negligence of the Akhira.

The remedy for the situation is concern for the Akhira and the remembrance of Allah Ta’aala. Wherever and whenever this prescription was applied, the social life of people became truly human to the extent that the angels even envied it.

Today we want to stop crime while being unmindful of Allah Ta’aala and the Akhira. In fact, at every attempt such means are adopted which take a person further away from Allah Ta’aala and the Akhira. The result of this is before our eyes - more crime, murder, violence, etc. Alas! If the intelligent apply this Qur’anic prescription, they will realize how easy it is to control crime.

DUA (PRAYER)
TO BE READ TO/AT THE SIDE OF AN ILL PERSON

ALLAHUMMA ISHFI ABDAK YANKA’ LAKA ADUWWAN AW YAMSHEE LAKA ILAA JANAAZATIN

“O Allah! Grant Him Cure, O Allah! Grant Him comfort or make Him better.”

AND… FOR THE KIDDIES
The Pretty Tumbler

“Mummy, mummy! May I please have some cold water to drink,” asked Shakira. “Yes, my dear,” said mummy. She took the jug of cold water from the fridge and poured some into the pretty tumbler.

This was very special as it had been a farewell gift from Muallimah Aarifa. It served as a reminder to Shakira to drink the Sunnah way. Shakira took the Tumbler and sat down as only Zam Zam water and water left over after making Wudhu can be drank standing.

She held the tumbler in her right hand as she didn’t like to copy Shaytaan who drinks with the left hand. Then she said “Bismillah” and drank in three separate sips. She never drank water in one breath like a camel. After drinking the water, Shakira said, “Alhamdulillah“ which means “Allah be praised.”

RECIPE
MEAT BREYANI
Meat Sauce

2 onions finely chopped plus oil to sauté onions - 1kg meat, washed trimmed and drained - 20ml garlic and ginger - 2 green chillies - 2 pieces of stick cinnamon - 3 cardamon pods - 3 whole cloves - 3 all spice berries - 30ml ground coriander - 15ml turmeric - 10ml fine cumin - 10ml fine fennel/somph - 15ml chilli powder - 1 large tomato grated - 250ml yoghurt - 1 bunch fresh coriander chopped - 5ml saffron soaked in boiling water - 250ml crispy friend onions, well golden - 125ml cooked lentils, kept aside (masoor) - 125ml melted butter - 14 small potatoes, fried in oil.

Method
Heat oil in large pot and then add onions and sauté until golden. Add meat, ginger and garlic and sauté for 20 mins ass water if necessary. Add all spices and tomato and cook till soft, lastly add yoghurt and fresh coriander. Cook for a further 10 mins until sauce is reduced.

The Rice
Boli 4 cups rice with 2 sticks cinnamon, 3 cloves, 3 all spice berries, 3 cardamom pods, 60ml oil, 20ml salt in 2 liters water until rice is ¾ done. Rice must not be very soft. Drain.

To Assemble
Using a pyrex, place a layer of rice at the bottom, then a layer of meat sauce, followed by potatoes, lentils and fried onions. Repeat the process until all rice and meat is used ending off with rice. Sprinkle the top with saffron water, melted butter, lentils and onions. Cover with foil and place in the oven and allow to steam until heated through.

Serve with dhai, onion salad, and/or atchar.

COOKING TIP
Add a few drops of lemon juice to rice, while it is cooking. This will keep the grain from breaking easily.

A THOUGHT
As much as I may repeat the words: 'Honey, honey, honey...' or describe the characteristics and flavour of honey, as long as you are not tasting it, you are not going to be satisfied. These realities must be tasted, and unless you have reached that point you cannot understand more than these words."

THE SMILE
The big problem with "fast" food...
The big problem with "fast" food is that it slows down when it hits your stomach. And it just parks there--and lets the fat have time to get off and apply for citizenship.

THE NEWS
A senior al-Qaida suspect wanted for bombing U.S. embassies in East Africa has been killed, a Somali official said as witnesses said U.S forces launched a third day of airstrikes. Also, Somalia's Deputy Prime Minister said American troops were needed on the ground to root fighters from his troubled country, and he expected the troops soon. The death of al-Qaida suspect Fazul Abdullah Mohammed was detailed in an American intelligence report passed on to the Somali authorities. Mohammed, one of the FBI's most wanted who has evaded capture for eight years, was allegedly harbored by a Somali Islamic movement that had challenged this country's Ethiopian-backed government for power.

Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas called on the Palestinians to work to prevent internal violence from exploding into an all-out civil war. Haniyeh's Islamic Hamas group, which controls the Cabinet and parliament, and the more moderate Fatah, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, have been engaged in bloody street battles that have killed 35 Palestinians over the past month. Haniyeh said the fighting "will please enemies of the Palestinians, who want to see civil war."

Iran's nuclear programme will be a main topic of discussion when Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert meets China's leaders. Olmert, who met Premier Wen Jiabao and was scheduled to meet Chinese President Hu Jintao during his three-day visit, will talk about the importance of U.N.-imposed sanctions. "He will surely talk about how Israel is concerned by Iranians becoming a nuclear state and what are the consequences that can take place if the Iranians will hold a nuclear bomb or weapon." The council has warned that it will adopt further nonmilitary sanctions if Iran continues to refuse to suspend uranium
enrichment, a process that produces the material for either nuclear reactors or bombs.

All Gauteng schools have opened for the start of the 2007 school year with a few minor hitches reported. Spokesman Panyaza Lesufi said that the department is quite excited that everything went smoothly. Minor incidents had occurred "here and there". Police were called out to a high school at Bosmont in Johannesburg where teachers, pupils and some parents were protesting against the principal, allegedly over poor exam results. "The police managed to restore order," Lesufi said. In Pretoria, a dispute between a contractor and sub-contractor over payment at a new high school in Lotus Gardens was also resolved. Late registrations are still a "major problem."

The ANC's 95th anniversary rally will be open to the general public, the party has confirmed. The party is to host its anniversary rally in Witbank on Saturday. On Wednesday the Sowetan reported that ANC branches around the country were expected to forward the names and identity numbers of those wishing to attend. According to the paper the submission of the names and identity numbers of those who would attend was a bid by the ANC to protect President Thabo Mbeki from "unruly party members".
