THE MESSAGE
RABIUL AWWAL FOCUS
Muhammad SAW and Faithfulness
-------------------------------------

Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam was a warmhearted and faithful friend. He loved his companions. He extended greetings to those he knew and to those he did not know. He treated all people around him with kindness and affection.

He was very courteous to all those who met him. He never contradicted anybody who was not opposed to the teachings of Islam. He treated equally the humble and the lofty. He claimed no distinction and lived amongst his companions as if he was not their leader.

Neighbourliness
He regarded the neighbours as brothers and sisters because of their closeness and living in the same vicinity. He once smelt the aroma of the soup cooked by his wife. He told her to give some of it to the neighbours who also smelt it. He said it was not right for a Muslim to sleep with a full stomach after having had a good meal but let his neighbour starve. He laid the foundation for a friendly relation and cooperation among neighbours exemplifying that living as a neighbour one has one's right and responsibility.

In regard to the rights of a neighbour the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: “Help him if he asks your help; give him relief if he seeks your relief; show him concern if he is distressed and when he is ill; attend his funeral if he dies; congratulate him if he meets any good; sympathize with him if any calamity befalls him; do not block his air by raising your building without his permission and do not harass him."

DUA (PRAYER)
Hasbuyalllah laailaaha illaa huwa alayhi tawakkaltu wahuwa rabbul arshil atheem. Allah is sufficient for me. None is worthy of worship besides Him. Only on Him do I rely. And only He is the owner of the Great Throne.

BENEFIT: Whoever recites this Dua seven times morning and evening Allah Ta’aala will save him/her from worries.

AND… FOR THE KIDDIES
Unfolding the Rose

A young, new Ustaadh (teacher) was walking with an older, more seasoned Ustaadh (teacher) in the garden one day. Feeling a bit insecure about what Allah Ta’aala had for him to do, he was asking the older Ustaadh for some advice.

The older Ustaadh walked up to a rosebush and handed the young Ustaadh a rosebud and told him to open it without tearing off any petals. The young Ustaadh looked in disbelief at the older Ustaadh and was trying to figure out what a rosebud could possibly have to do with his wanting to know the Will of Allah for his life and ministry.

But because of his great respect for the older Ustaadh, he proceeded to try to unfold the rose, while keeping every petal intact... It wasn't long before he realized how impossible this was to do. Noticing the younger Ustaadh's inability to unfold the rosebud without tearing it, the older Ustaadh began to recite the following poem...

It is only a tiny rosebud,
A flower of Allah's design;
But I cannot unfold the petals
With these clumsy hands of mine.

The secret of unfolding flowers
Is not known to such as I.
Allah opens this flower so sweetly,
Then in my hands they die.

If I cannot unfold a rosebud,
This flower of Allah's design,
Then how can I have the wisdom
To unfold this life of mine?

So I'll trust in Allah for leading
Each moment of my day.
I will look to Allah for His guidance
Each step of the way.

The pathway that lies before me,
Only Allah knows.
I'll trust Him to unfold the moments,
Just as He unfolds the rose.

RECIPE
POPPY SEED CAKE
Ingredients

125g Butter - 200ml sugar - 3 extra large eggs separated - 500ml cake flour - 15ml baking powder - 230ml orange juice - 60ml poppy seeds - 60ml sugar.

Icing
500ml icing sugar - 60ml orange juice.

Method
Cream butter and sugar well together. Add egg yolks and beat well until light and fluffy. Sift flour and baking powder and add alternatively with the orange juice. Gradually add the poppy seeds to mixture while beating well. IN a separate bowl whisk the egg whites and 60ml sugar until soft peaks form. Fold egg whites into the poppy seed mixture. Pour mixture into a round 23cm loose bottomed cake tin. Bake in a preheated oven at 160c for 25 minutes. Turn onto a wire cake rack to cool.

For the icing: Mix ingredients until just smooth and pour over cake when cooled completely.

COOKING TIP
To chop onions without tears, slit a clean transparent plastic bag from base, so that both sides are open. Place board and hands inside this and chop onions with the bag forming a loose out casing.

A THOUGHT
The notion of fatalism (belief that people are powerless against fate) is unfounded. Ye have feet why then pretend ye are lame? Ye have hands why then conceal your claws? When a master places a spade in the hand of a slave, the slave knows its meaning without being told.

THE SMILE
JEALOUSY

A woman wanted to reach her husband on his mobile phone but discovered that she was out of credit, she instructed her son to use his own phone to pass across an urgent message to his daddy who was on site. After junior had called, he got back to Mommy to inform her that there was a lady that picked up Daddy's phone the three times he tried reaching Dad on the mobile.

She waited impatiently for her husband to return from work and upon seeing him in the driveway; she rushed out and gave him a tight slap. Then she slapped him again for good measure.

People from the neighbourhood rushed around to find out what the cause of the commotion was. The woman asked junior to tell everybody what the lady said to him when he called.

Junior said: "The subscriber you have dialled is not available at present. Please try again later."
